District 10 seeks new member
GOING IN — Jamie Fuson carefully guides one of the cattle guard sections in place. Fuson Excavating is the contractor for the cattle guards that were installed on the Midway interchange last Thursday and Friday. It was September 2007 when the cattle got out on the interstate and Conrad saw a few unfortunate accidents resulting in damaged vehicles, injured people and several dead cows.    The Conrad School Board will be looking for a new trustee after declaring Mark Gage’s trustee position vacant at the last school board meeting.
By state law, the board has 60 days in which to appoint a new trustee to fill the position for the rest of the year.
In May, at the next school election, there would be a vote to elect someone to fulfill the year remaining on the term.
If you are interested in being appointed to this trustee position please notify the board in writing by sending a letter of interest to Superintendent Lynn Utterback, 215 S. Maryland St. Conrad, 59425.
Commenting on the resignation, Utterback commented, “We (the board) would express our gratitude to him for serving for over 11 years as a trustee and providing leadership as the board chairman for the majority of this time.”
He went on to say, “We are greatly appreciative.”

No fireworks on FWP lands
Thursday, 02 July 2009 07:56
Tis the season to celebrate America’s 4th of July birthday bash, especially with fireworks.
But it’s important to remember fireworks are illegal on all Fish, Wildlife and Parks’ lands.
Every year around the 4th of July, people buy fireworks, and then look for a place out of town to shoot them off. The local fishing access site or state park presents an inviting spot. Don’t do it.
State law says no one may set off fireworks on any FWP lands from April 1 until the opening of archery season, which is the first Saturday in September.  In addition, some FWP properties, such as Giant Springs and Ulm Pishkun state parks, are closed permanently to fireworks.
Anyone using fireworks on FWP lands may be charged with a misdemeanor that can result in a fine up to $500.
So have fun on July 4th and visit a state park or fishing access site. Just leave the fireworks  home.
