Wrestling Club has busy schedule

The Conrad Wrestling Club has been busy over the past two weeks.

In February the club was in Choteau with 23 wrestlers. There were over 350 kids.

Seven of the wrestlers went undefeated including Cade Kimball, Demetri Will, Tyce Erickson, Tim Galarneau, Caden Huntsinger and Kyndal Mathis, all going 2-0. Roper Mycke picked up an extra match and was 3-0.

I-O joins others on Senate conference call

The Independent-Observer joined papers from Sidney, Chester, Fort Peck and Havre in a conference call with Sen. John Tester on Thursday morning.

He had just gotten back to Washington, D.C. after being back in Montana over the President’s Day holiday. He noted that he had put over 1,500 miles on the road visiting constituents and hosting a Small Business workshop in Bozeman.

The Senator noted that some 350 people, including 20 federal agencies showed up for the mini-conference which helps small business owners to do work with the government and share information on the contracting process. “We’re trying to level the playing field,” he noted, saying it was a successful event.

Criminal activity down for 2009

While it will never completely go away, criminal activity in Conrad took a dip last year.

Chief of Police Gary Dent released the numbers of the year-end officer activity report for 2009.

The number of calls for service for 2009 went down to 2,207 while the year before, 2008, the department logged in 2,444.

The number of formal complaints also took a tumble, going down to 242 for last year while in 2008 there were 286.
