Conrad, ranked number three in the District 1-B volleyball standings, made a big jump forward on Tuesday, ruffling the feathers of the Fairfield Eagles in four games.
The scores of the match looked like this: 27-25, 25-23, 23-25, 25-20.
The Cowgirls moved their conference record to 8-4 and 7-5 overall. The Eagles fell to 6-4, 7-4 respectively.
While the games in the Eagle’s nest were close, Conrad put the pressure on early by taking the first two games.
Samantha Fagan dropped home three of the eight team aces. Jenny Silvernale blasted back 15-35 team kill shots and blocked nine incoming balls at the net Olivia Campbell slapped back eight kills shots..
Taylor Johnson dished up 18 of their 35 assists and Alyssa Keil 16. She also had 34 of the 96 team digs with Beth Grubb right behind with 33.
The team ended their regular season with a non-conference contest against the Class A Blue Ponies of Havre.
The Ponies showed no mercy, taking the contest in straight games by scores of 16-25, 10-25, and 12-25.
Conrad got in only three aces from the service line and they came, one each, from Emily Weisgram, Fagan and Grubb.
Fagan and Silvernale each put back four kill shots, Keil had 11 assists, Fagan and Silvernale had three and two blocked shots respectively. Grubb had 10 digs and Johnson eight.
Conrad placed second in the District 1-B standing at 8-4. They were 8-6 overall.
To one’s surprise, Choteau won the conference and number one seed going into district play with a 12-0 record, 14-0 overall.
With their earlier win over Fairfield, the Cowgirls pushed the Eagles into third place, 8-4, 8-6.
The final standings look like this: 1. Choteau, 2. Conrad, 3. Fairfield, 4. Cut Bank, 5. Shelby, 6. Cascade. 7. Rocky Boy.
The District tourney begins in Choteau on Thursday. The Bulldogs drew a bye.
Cut Bank and Shelby start off the action with a 1 p.m. contest. Conrad hits the courts in the 2:30 p.m. game and will face a hapless Rocky Boy team, 0-12, 3-13.
As it looks on paper, the home ladies should move on to the 7:30 p.m. match which should feature them going up against Fairfield
That potential line up could be one of the better games of the district tournament.
