Vern Stokes, manager of the Pondera County Canal & Reservoir Company (PCCRC) will be the featured speaker at the Marias River Watershed (MRW) quarterly meeting scheduled for Jan. 6, 2010 at the Marias River Electric hospitality room, in Shelby at 1 p.m.

Stokes’ presentation will feature two major wasteway projects completed with the assistance of grant funds supported by the Marias River Watershed.

The projects involved retrofits of two wasteways that were causing severe gully erosion. The erosion has been completely stopped and the water savings can be used for stock and wildlife use.

“The Marias River Watershed has worked closely with the PCCRC to make improvements that affect the water quality and quantity within the watershed” stated Paul Kronebusch, MRW Chairman.

He went on to say, “We’re proud of the working relationship we have forged with PCCRC and hope to continue this relationship far into the future.  Their involvement with our watershed organization is critical to our goals of improving and maintaining the character of the Marias.”

The public is invited and encouraged to attend this meeting and listen to Stokes’ presentation.
