The Community Cancer Foundation is again sponsoring a Karaoke for Cancer fund-raiser.
Contestants in the five week event will be vying for a top prize of $1,000, $500 for second place and a new Playstation 3 for capturing third.
Singers will present their talent on Jan. 23, Feb 6 and 20 and March 6 at Ed’s Tavern. The finals will take place there as well on March 20.
Like in last year’s competition, three contestants will advance in the competition, based on a combination of judge’s scores and audience votes, the latter coming from money.
There are two new twists to the singing event this year.
One is that four singers per week will go to the finals and one contestant will be a judges pick, meaning a top talent will go to the finals each week based on the judges scores alone (regardless of audience votes collected). This is to ensure a top talent moves on.
Judges will be looking for vocal ability, stage presence and star quality.
One bit of advice from a musician and leader of a local band, Mitch Hauer, is to know your song, face the crowd, not the lyric screen and by all means, “Have fun!”
All proceeds of the Karaoke for Cancer will benefit the local Community Cancer Foundation.
