Luke Schlosser wins 2nd state wrestling title

The Cowboy wrestlers placed three matmen at the state tournament in Billings and placed ninth overall.

Sophomore Luke Schlosser, wrestling at 105 points defended his title at the state meet and set himself up for possibly being the only Cowboy to win four state championships.

The Cowboys have a number of wrestlers who have won three titles, but Schlosser could be the first to go 4-0.

Johnny Schlosser (145) had a good tournament placing second. He fell to Hunter Azure of Poplar who ended his career as a four time state champion.

Kyle Judisch (112) placed for the team, coming in at fourth.

In early action on the mats at the Metra on Friday, L. Schlosser won by a pin in 2:58 and took his quarterfinal match with another pin win in 1:38.

Still in early mat action, Judisch defeated an opponent from Choteau by a pin in 2:41. Colt Harris (125) stopped his man in 3:41 and J. Schlosser added another pin fall win for the home boys with a time of 2:48, Lucas Schultz ran out a 13-6 decision win.

At the end of the first day, the Cowboys were in ninth place.

The top 10 teams and scores went like this: Glasgow 88, Huntley Project 81, Townsend 78, Cascade-Simms 63, Forsyth 63, Chinook 54, Choteau 52, Florence 46, Conrad 41 and Darby 40.

On Saturday, Judisch fought his way back through the consolation matches and finally lost in the finals, placing fourth  to Jacob Bethea of Glasgow who won the tough 6-4 match.

J. Schlosser won his semi-final match over Jim Peterson of St. Ignatius, 2-1, setting the table for a meeting of the two best 145 pounders.

L. Schlosser stopped Tanner Johnson of Townsend in 4:46 in his semifinal match and then came on to stop Taylor French of Forsyth with a 7-2 decision for the heavy hardware.

The top 10 teams and scores looked like this: 1. Glasgow-185, 2. Townsend-133, 3. Forsyth-141, 4. Huntley Project-133, 5. Chinook-120, 6. Cascade-Simms-99, 7. Florence-86, 8. Colstrip-84, 9. Conrad-81 and 10. Harlem-69.

Coach Kevin Moritz commented, “We’re proud of all our wrestlers for doing a good job at the state meet.”

Luke Schlosser has been selected to wrestle in the Tournament of Champions in Great Falls on Feb. 20.

Last year’s inaugural event drew 57 wrestlers. The one-day single elimination all-star event will begin at 11 a.m. at the GFH old gym with the championship round starting about 1 p.m.
