Limited rehab planned for Sollid Road

The Montana Department of Transportation would like to notify the public and seek comments on a proposal to rehabilitate a portion of State Secondary 218 (Sollid Road) which will include a cold-in-place recycle of the existing plant mix followed by a seal and cover (chip-seal).

The project begins approximately 18 miles east of Conrad (reference marker 18.8) in Pondera County and extends east to the end of the pavement at the Pondera/Liberty County Line (reference marker 25.7).

The proposed work includes a full width cold-in-place recycle of the existing plant mix.  A cold-in-place recycle includes pulverization of the existing asphalt roadway, injection of a recycling agent, followed by paving, and rolling the recycled material.  The cold-in-place process is followed by a fog seal and a seal and cover.

The proposed work from reference marker 25.0 (T-intersection) north to reference marker 25.7 is to pulverize the existing double-shot seal and cover and return this section to a re-graded gravel surface.

The purpose of the project is to extend the service life of the highway and take a cost-effective action to preserve and maintain the existing roadway surface.

This project is scheduled for construction in the summer of 2011 depending on completion of all project development activities and availability of funding.  The acquisition of additional right of way is not needed for this project; nor will the relocation of utilities be required.
