The weather finally cooperated and the softball team was able to get on to the ball field at the Cut Bank Invitational on Saturday.
The team gained a split in their contests, dropping a tough loss to the host squad 4-3 and then coming back to stop the Sunburst Refiners 11-1.
Conrad came back from being down 0-2, helping Cut Bank to the early lead with four errors in the first inning, to take a 3-2 lead in the third inning, only to have the Lady Wolves score a single run in the fifth and put away the contest with a walk-off safety in the bottom of the seventh.
Conrad committed seven errors in all and stranded six runners. Brownell suffered the loss and is 1-4 for the season.
Erica Grubb pounded out a triple and double and had two RBIs, Cowgirl senior Sami Fagan went 3-4 at the plate and picked up the other RBI for the team.
Jena Stratman, Kara Bandow Kasey Brownell, Rashelle Johns, Olivia Campbell, Kelli Fagan and Taylor Johnson all had one hit for the team.
In the nightcap game, Bandow and battery mate K. Fagan started the contest and Johns and Grubb wrapped up the package, combing to toss a no hitter. The game was stopped after five innings for the mercy rule with the Cowgirls leading 11-1.
Bandow got the win and is 3-5 for the season. The Cowgirls, after this game, are 4-10.
Campbell went 1-2 with a double and an RBI, Amelia DeBoo was 1-1, stroking a triple, Ciara Bender, Grubb and Johns all had singles.
Monday the Cowgirls took to the road to play the Simms Tigers.
The host team jumped out to an early 3-0 lead and added four runs in the fourth inning to pad their lead to 8-2 and then held on for a 9-7 win.
Conrad rallied for five runs in the top of the seventh but just came up short.
Johns suffered the loss.
From the batter’s box Brownell went 2-3 with a triple. Olivia Campbell also legged out a three bagger. The Fagan sisters each got a hit.
The Cowgirls committed five errors in the game. The Tigers got their nine runs on five hits and also committed five errors.
