Conrad was in Shepherd for the Northern B/C softball tournament over the weekend.

They dug themselves a hole early on losing to Colstrip in a game ended by the mercy rule, 19-7.

Early on the team was down 5-0 but came back with three runs in the fourth and two more in the fifth to trail 8-5.

However, Colstrip, a team the Cowgirls owned during the regular season, exploded for nine runs in the bottom of the fifth and the contest was called.

Kara Bandow started the game and got relief from Kasey Brownell. Bandow suffered the loss giving up 15 runs on 17 hits. She fanned seven and didn’t issue a walk.

Conrad got their five runs off of eight hits and committed one error. Colstrip banged out 20 hits in getting 17 runs and had three errors.

Senior Samantha Fagan went 2-3, with an RBI. Taylor Johnson went 3-3, Brownell 1-2, Olivia Campbell was 0-3 but had an RBI, Kelli Fagan went 1-2 with a double and two RBIs and Brittany Greyn went 1-2.

However, the “cardiac kids” came back through the losers’ bracket and arguably playing three of their best games of the season earned a trip to the Big Dance in Billings.

First they had to get by Glasgow, a team that had defeated them twice in the regular season.

Rashelle Johns started and gave up two quick runs to the Scotties. But that would be the only runs they would get.

The team answered back with one run of their own and a 2-1 lead by Glasgow held up until the sixth inning. Conrad pounded out three runs, winning the game 4-2.

Johns got the victory tossing a three hitter and striking out seven. The Cowgirls got their runs off of eight hits. S. Fagan was 1-4, Johnson 2-3, Brownell 2-3, K. Fagan 1-3 and Devon Rauscher was 1-1.

In their second gem of the day, the Cowgirls came on to fashion a 6-2 win over Simms.

Brownell pitched a fine game giving up just two runs on three hits. She sat down eight batters and walked one.

Conrad got their runs on five hits. Campbell was 1-3, Brownell 1-3, Bandow 1-3, Johns 1-4 and Shenae Newmiller was 1-4.
Saturday morning Conrad got another shot at Colstrip.

With some nice defensive help in the outfield from Newmiller, Campbell and Grubb, Johns tossed a three hitter giving up just one run. She struck out three batters as well.

The team scored single runs in the 2nd-4th-and 6th innings. Colstrip got their only run in the seventh inning.

S. Fagan was 1-3, Johnson 1-3, Brownell 1-3 and Johns 1-3.

The win put them in line for a slot at the state tournament.

They still had a game with three time defending state champs, Stillwater who came on to win the contest 11-0.

Bandow suffered the loss giving up 11 hits and runs. She struck out four and walked two.

S. Fagan went 1-2, Campbell 1-2, Bandow 1-2, Greyn 1-1 and Newmiller 1-1.

Conrad plays Thompson Falls, the western champs at 2 p.m. on Thursday in Billings.
