Conrad bumped out of tournament

Conrad ran into a buzz saw powered by the Mustangs in their first game at the divisional tourney in Malta.

The top ranked host Malta team jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead before Taylor Judisch went 1-2 at the line. But then the Malta squad ran off eight points to go up 12-1 and eventually lead 18-5 at the end of the first period.

Malta went to the locker room with a 27-11 lead. Over the second half the M-ettes outscored Conrad 28-13 as they won going away, 55-24.

Rashelle Johns led the team in scoring with six points. Judisch put up five, Morgan VanDyke had four, Moranda Brenteson the same Taylor Johnson three, and Jayde Richardson two.

The Cowgirls hit on 10 shots from the field and were 3-9 at the line. Malta had three players in double figures for scoring, hitting on 23 shots from the floor and going 7-13 at the charity stripe.

Friday in loser out play, the Cowgirls saw their season come crashing down as they suffered a 56-41 loss to Wolf Point.

Early on the team trailed 28-12, but in the third period they rallied back, went on a 17-7 run and were done by only six points heading to the final eight minutes.

However, Wolf  Point came back and outscored them 21-12 to pull out the win.

Johns went to the hoops for 19 points to lead the Conrad players.

Johnson hit for six, Orcutt did the same, Grubb and Brenteson each canned four points, and Judisch hit a couple of free throws to round out the scoring.

Conrad hit on 15 shots from the field and was 9-14 at the line. Wolf Point hit the mark on 17 shots from the floor and was 18-41 at the line.
