As a special for the I-O we will be running a bi-monthly ‘Spotlight on Business’ with an emphasis on their contributions to our community and their history.
Built on Montana values, Stockman Bank strives to be more than just another bank. They consider themselves the premier financial institution for commercial business, agricultural and real estate interests. They are focused on creating long-standing relationships through integrity, expertise and results and as Dan Majerus, Conrad Branch President, says it best, “You’re never a stranger for very long at Stockman Bank.”
Stockman Bank is a Montana born company that started in 1953 by Bill Nefsy in Miles City. They have grown from these humble beginnings to become a $2 billion financial center that now includes banking, insurance and investment services. Stockman Bank has 22 full service locations and over 50 ATM locations throughout eastern, central and north central Montana from Dillon to Plentywood.
Stockman Bank became a presence in Conrad when they bought Farmers State Bank in 2000. Farmers State Bank had been in Conrad since 1918. When Farmers sold to Stockman, it was owned primarily by the Pohlad family based out of Minneapolis, Minn. A gentleman’s agreement was put in place and both agreed that if one was to sell, then the other would have the first chance to buy.
Therefore, when Pohlad chose to divest himself of his Montana banks, Stockman Bank seized the opportunity to buy the Conrad and Cut Bank locations. A year later, Stockman was also able to pick up the Conrad Western Security location, which has become the current motor bank location.
Currently, Stockman Bank has 25 employees in Conrad. Uniquely dedicated, well trained and knowledgeable, the Stockman staff considers their customers as much more than just numbers or accounts. They are neighbors, friends and family. Everyone shares the Bank’s philosophy of relationship building and service. They go the extra mile and take ownership of customers’ needs.
Alice Garman has dedicated the most years of service to Stockman Bank at 46 years. Currently, 12 other employees have worked for the bank for over 20 and seven of those employees have been in the bank for more than 30 years.
Stockman Bank is very proud of its long standing reputation of community involvement. The Conrad staff is involved in virtually every community function that happens in Conrad in some capacity. Along with service on many boards and activities from church, school, civic and social functions, they also create involvement with their lobby displays throughout the year.
