As a special for the I-O we will be running a bi-monthly ‘Spotlight on Business’ with an emphasis on their contributions to our community and their history.

Nestled in the same location for the past 21 years is the House of Charles Beauty Salon. Originally owned by Charles and Rita Grasseschi, the House of Charles has moved around quite a few times from locations such as the Pondera Village Shopping Center and K’s Auto.

Brenda Pruttis joined the salon under Charlie and six years later, Brenda’s mother Judy Aakre purchased it. Pruttis has been involved with the salon for 20 years now and another generation has been added to the business. Brianne Aakre, Brenda’s daughter, has been working in the salon for four years.

A truly family owned and operated business, the salon is laid back and has a very relaxed atmosphere. Pruttis commented that families are always welcome and that the salon offers reasonable prices and is a one-in-all place to go. They not only provide hair services but also do nails, pedicures, manicures, waxing and have two tanning beds for your needs.

The hours of the salon are very flexible and Pruttis and B. Aakre try to accommodate their clients as much as possible. Both women visit the Horizon Lodge and Beehive regularly for those not always able to make it into the salon. They also travel to the homes of those not able to come in.

Pruttis commented on working with her daughter and said they both have their own specialty. B. Aakre brings a young flare to clients wishing for the latest in color technology and hair design. Pruttis provides all services but prefers the classic techniques often preferred by her older clients.

The House of Charles retails Paul Mitchell products and makes special orders for those who need something not available on the shelf.

A new generation can now be seen toddling around at the salon. Hair stylist in training is Brianne’s nine month old daughter Rylen.

House of Charles Beauty Salon is located at 312 S. Main Street and can be reached at 278-5941.
