The Montana Department of Environmental Quality is accepting public comment on an application from Montana Alberta Tie Ltd. and MATL LLP., co-permittees for the Montana Alberta Tie Transmission Line, to amend their Certificate of Compliance under the Major Facility Siting Act (MFSA). The Certificate of Compliance authorizes construction and operation of the Montana portion of a 230-kV line between Great Falls and the Montana-Alberta border northeast of Cut Bank.
If approved, the certificate amendment would allow modification of the location for the line in two areas: 1.3-mile relocation roughly 8.7 miles east of Dutton and a second 1- mile relocation about 6.5 miles northeast of Valier.
The DEQ has prepared an environmental assessment (EA) on the proposed amendment which is available for review and comment.
It may be revised based on public comment. The EA is available from the DEQ’s website: www.deq.mt.gov. Due to the 30-day statutory limit for the MFSA Certificate amendment process, comments must be received by 5 p.m. on July 8.
