Conrad will be celebrating its third annual National Night Out (NNO) on Aug. 2. NNO is a nationwide annual event in which our community began participating in 2009. NNO is designed to: 1. Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; 2. Generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime programs; 3. Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and 4. Send a message to criminals that our neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
Our local event is organized by Conrad Police Chief Gary Dent, the Conrad Chamber of Commerce, and Jamey Byrnes with Gary & Leo’s IGA. The Conrad Lion’s Club also sponsors this event and cooks their famous burgers. It will take place from 5-9 p.m., August 2, in the Lion’s Swimming Pool Park and features demonstrations by law enforcement, a mobile DUI unit, crime lab, fire trucks and equipment, a stealth helicopter (weather permitting), the Border Patrol Canine Unit, just to name a few. Also included in the evening’s events are free carnival rides and games for kids, as well as food and live music by Up North.
As in the past, most activities are free of charge and open to the public. For more information please contact the Conrad Chamber at 271-7791.
