From a town rich on values and community comes our ‘Spotlight on Business’ which highlights a business, gives emphasis on their contributions to our community and remembers their history.
After finishing veterinary school, Dick Kinyon knew he wanted to continue to live and work in the Big Sky state. In 1977, he and Lauren Keller bought the Conrad Veterinary Hospital from Rib Gustafson. Keller stayed for three years before Kinyon became the sole owner.
With his wife Mary Jane at his side, the Kinyons have continued to work and raise their family in Conrad.
After about 10 years, Wade Spears came from Kansas State University and joined the team. The two have continued to work on both large and small animals, they say they work on it all, “except snakes.”
The vet clinic mostly sees cows, dogs and cats, some horses and even some exotic pets. Calving and breeding seasons are their busiest. As an extra service, they also provide dog and cat boarding.
Besides the Kinyon couple and Spears, they also employ Shalee Munson, Devin, Paige and Sierra Rauscher.
The Kinyons have been a part of the community with their time spent in the Pondera Players and 4H over the years. D. Kinyon has also had his own catering business and Spears is a board member at the Conrad Christian School. The Conrad Veterinary Hospital is also a member of the Conrad Area Chamber of Commerce.
They can be reached at 278-3236 during regular business hours which are Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1-5 p.m. and from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday. For after hours needs both veterinarians can be reached at home.
