Filing for public office opened

Filing for elected offices opened on Jan. 12, and the games are on, and closes on March 5.

There are two county positions up for grabs this year, a commissioner position, District III, and the Pondera County Clerk of District Court.

Four people have wasted no time in filing for office.

For commissioner, incumbent chairman Cynthia ‘Cyndi’  Johnson has filed for re-election and Clerk and Recorder Janice Hoppes has also filed for the commissioner position. Both candidates are on the Republican ticket.

For the Clerk of Court, incumbent Kara Thompson has filed for re-election. She will be challenged by Laurie Eisenzimer. Both are Republicans.

With Judge Laurie McKinnon filing for the Montana Supreme Court, that opened up the judgeship that covers Pondera, Teton, Toole and Glacier counties.

County Attorney Mary Ann Ries has filed for Judge of the Ninth District Court along with Bob Olson, an attorney in Cut Bank.

The filing fee for commissioner is $211.76 and for Clerk of Court $201.76.

The salary for the commissioner is $42,776 and for Clerk of Court, $40,746.
