It has been said, “Individual commitment to a group effort - that is what makes a team work, a company work, a society work, a civilization work.”
This year the Pondera County Health Department would like to honor a young person, who has shown leadership and foresight in the field of public health.
“Teenagers are an important part of the public health plan, because the future, no matter how they paint it, is theirs,” says Cynthia Grubb, RN, CLC of the health department.
Prevention work often goes undetected and more often goes under appreciated.
Even as a sophomore, Pondera County Health Department’s Youth Volunteer of the Year has put in three years working mostly in the field of tobacco prevention.
Over the past three years, she has participated with the swim team and promoting tobacco prevention. She also spends a lot of time during “Through with chew” week, planning and doing various activities throughout the week, at the high school.
She has also participated in the ReACT conferences, with youth from all around Montana. She attends monthly coalition meetings. Not only does she help with tobacco prevention, she also helps with the Montana Buckle Up program. Her recent project involved creating a design for coffee sleeves, the logo was, “Cowboy Up, Buckle Up.”
She dedicates her lunch time to do observational surveys with the Buckle Up program. She is always willing and dedicated in all that is asked of her.
“So on behalf of the Pondera County Health Department,” says Grubb, “We would like to honor Kelci Watterud, as our Youth Volunteer of the Year.”
