Pondera County approves agreement for healthy homes

A task order agreement between the Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services and the Pondera County Health Department to implement blood lead screening through home visiting services in the county was approved on Wednesday at the commissioner’s regular business meeting.

It will target a young population of children, 1-5 years of age, who are enrolled in Medicaid and live in housing built prior to 1978.

The health department will receive funding in the amount of $21,000 for the period of April 15 through Aug. 31.

Commissioner Sandy Broesder made the motion with a second by Joe Christiaens. It passed on a 3-0 vote, the other coming from Commissioner Cynthia Johnson.

An excavation agreement requested by 3 Rivers Communications Telephone Cooperative was approved.

Excavation will take place on and under Swanson Road for the purpose of installing a fiber optic phone cable for service and an area up-grade.

In other business, the commissioners appointed Georgia Snortland, Stephanie Keil-Harris and Cheryl Curry as the election audit committee members through May 2013.

On a related matter, the commissioners moved to designate the following locations as polling places through December 2012.Precincts 24, 27, 28 will have a new location, the Pondera Center at 311 S. Virginia instead of Norley Hall.

All other voting locations remain the same and they are Precinct 19 Brady Community Center, Precinct 20 Heart Butte High School, and Precincts 34-35 at the Valier Civic Center.

Brady and Dupuyer precincts vote from noon to 8 p.m., while all the others vote from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.  Election Administrator Janice Hoppes noted, “All polling places are handicapped accessible and an AutoMARK machine is available at all the polling places.”  The motion for designation passed 3-0.

In addition, election judges were appointed to serve through may 2013.

The judges for the courthouse are Bev Widhalm, Rose Marie Peterman, Carol Johns, Jane Holzer, Terri Iverson and Jeanette McClain.

For Heart Butte, PCT 20 members are Brenda Cook, Carl Spotted Bear, Shawn Hall, Tanya Montoya and Tilena Comes At Night.

For Conrad, Pct 24 – Libby Sullivan, Marian Turk, Carol Bain, Pam Crawford and Betty McBratney.

Conrad, Pct 27 – Marilyn Waite, Linda Keil, Patricia Jones, Cheryl Tornga and June Hovde.

Conrad, PCT 28 – Marlene Hill, Bonnie Kronebusch, Reta Rae and Donovan Weisgram and Jerry and Sharon Walston.

For Brady, PCT 19 Betty Styren, Donna Dunn, Joan Weikum, Vicky Lee Hemry and Jeanne Long.

For Dupuyer, PCT 23 Susan Lee Anderson, Leanne Hayne and Barbara Dodge.

For Valier, PCT 34 Lalonnie Stokes, Jessie Wunderlich and Donna Mae Minarik.

For Valier, PCT 35 Raylene Stark, Mary Jean Brophy and Joan Marie Layne.

The county commissioners meet every Wednesday morning at 10 a.m. in their office to conduct business.
