Cowboy golfers 2nd at CB, take fourth at divisionals

Gearing up for the divisional tournament on Monday in Shelby the Cowboy golf team placed second in their final regular meet of the season at Cut Bank over the weekend.

Senior Austin Fowler had a nice round of 84 to gain a tie for second place with Kilian Cuniff of Choteau.

Freshman Jack Grubb who hadn’t broken 100 all season, fashioned a fine round of 89 and placed in the top 10 at seventh.

Team scores and places looked like this: 1. Choteau 338, 2. Conrad 367, 3. Valier 367, 4. Cut Bank 382, 5. Fort Benton 400, and 6. Shelby 412.

The Cowgirls do not have enough players to field a ‘team’. Four are needed.

However, Cowgirl Hayley Orcutt shot a 103 and placed in the top 10 in sixth place and senior Sierra Oehlke put together a round of 109 which put her in the top 10 in ninth place.

Complete scores for the Cowboys were not available.

Monday, the golfers were on the course at the Marias Valley Golf and Country Club at Shelby for the divisional tournament.

Players were out attacking the 6,914 yard layout for a chance to move on to the state tournament in Huntley Project.

On the ladies side, first year golfer, sophomore, Orcutt put together a round of 111 to place 13th in individual play.

The top four teams and top 15 individuals advance to state. She will be competing on the Eagle Rock course in Billings.

Cowgirl Oehlke was in 19th place with a 121 and Kailey Judisch, a sophomore shot a 144 to place 33rd.

Malta won the team title with Cut Bank in second and Shelby followed by Choteau. These four teams will advance to state.

Mariah McCormack of Cut Bank was the individual winner with a round of 89..

On the men’s side, the top four teams looked like this: Plentywood 334, Malta 352, Choteau 356 and Conrad 386. The Cowboys just got by Fairfield who was one shot back at 387.

Rob Nydy of Plentywood was in first place with a two over par round of 74.

Taking second place for the Cowboys was Fowler with a round of 81.

Other individual scoring saw Grubb in with a 93, good for 16th place.

Blake Underdahl had a 105 for 34th, Justin Salois had a 107 for 37th and Lucas Fowler with a round of 108 was one shot back in 38th.

The boys’ tee it up at Pryor Creek golf course in Huntley on May 15-16.
