Volleyball team takes it on the shin

This has not been the best of weeks for our school sports teams.

The Cowgirl volleyball squad suffered three losses; to Browning, Fairfield and rival Choteau.

The Browning match went to a full five games before the Indians pulled out a win. Scores looked like this 26-24, 19-25, 16-25, 25-23, 15-9.

The first game was a close affair  with nine ties and four lead changes. Krista Judisch and Taylor Judisch slapped back kill shots for points helping to keep the score close.

The second set, Browning got the early lead, but freshman middle hitter Emily Harwood ripped over a kill shot to tie the game and Michaela DeBoo put over an ace for an 8-5 lead. A tip-back by Justine Desjardin put the Cowgirls up 23-17. Each team would collect two more points, but it was Conrad that had the 25 for the win.

In the third game, Orcutt put Conrad on top early with an ace from the service line and VanDyke added another and with one from T. Judisch the Cowgirls built a 15-4 lead.

The home ladies did some nice shot making and blocking at the net in posting an easy 25-16 win. The fourth game saw the team fall behind early by as much as 4-9, but they rallied back but were just two points short in taking a 23-35 loss. The Indians came on in the fifth game winning 9-15 and taking the match.

T. Judisch put over five of the team’s 15 aces. Orcutt served up three. Of the 41 kill shots, T. Judisch had 16 and K. Judisch eight.

Orcutt put up 10 assists and Desjardin eight. Harwood blocked two of the Cowgirls six blocked shots and T. Judisch had 30 digs and VanDyke 24.

Thursday Conrad was on the road to Fairfield.

The Eagles came on to win the match in straight sets by scores of 25-14, 25-6, 25-16.

T. Judisch had four aces and four kill shots, Desjardin and Orcutt each had three assists, Harwood and Judisch each blocked a shot and VanDyke had seven of the teams 30 digs.

Friday, Conrad’s biggest rival, Choteau, came into town and left with a straight set win in the match  up. Scores went like this: 14-25, 19-25, and 8-25.

Fetters, VanDyke and T. Judisch all had one ace. She also had nine of the 19 team kill shots and Moranda Brenteson put back three.

Of the 18 assists, Orcutt dished out 11 and Desjardin five. K. Judisch blocked two shots and T. Judisch one.

The Cowgirls dug up 64 incoming shots. VanDyke and T. Judisch each had 17 and Orcutt eight.

At the half way mark of the season, the Cowgirls will be on the road for their next three matches.

Conrad’s next home game is Sept. 29 when the Blue Ponies of Havre ride into town.
