The Cowboys football season came to a close on Friday with the visiting Choteau Bulldogs taking a convincing win on Senior Night, 41-12.
Eight seniors took to the field for the last time; Kyle Dyrud, Devin VandenBos, Daniel O’Brien, Kellen Murack, Seth Diedrich, Justin Ratzburg, Trent Pearson, and Bryan Barker.
The Cowboys fell behind to the ‘Dawgs early, 14-0, but got back into the contest when instead of punting, kicker Tyler Padilla completed a pass for a first down, catching Choteau off guard.
Quarterback Shane Larson hit senior running back Devin VandenBos with a slant over the middle, completed another pass to the five yard line and then on a keeper ran the ball in for a TD.
The PAT failed, but Conrad was in the game at 14-6. Late in the period, Larson had a pass picked off and Choteau capitalized with another TD to make the score 21-6 at the half.
In the third quarter, Larson connected with sophomore wide out Blake Underdahl for a 17 yard pass, making the score 21-12. The PAT was no good.
But on the kick off, Bulldog Kyle Gollehon took in the ball, came up the middle and zoom, he was off to the races, scoring a TD. The Bulldogs upped their lead to 28-12.
VandenBos carried the ball 22 times for 67 yards and Larson was 6-15 passing with two interceptions.
The Cowboys moved their record to 0-4/1-7 for the season. Choteau went to 3-1/5-3 and will advance to the playoffs. Fairfield topped the league play with a 4-0/7-1 season.
