It is a company doing business behind the scenes and out of the public’s eye.  It may be a business out of sight, but certainly, not out of mind and serving the public in a most important capacity.

UFI Sanitation serves up portable toilets and restroom facilities for public and private events, and construction sites. They also do garbage, roll-offs and as of August they now offer septic pumping.

Gene and Lana Underdahl purchased this small business 12 years ago in January 2000.

Gene Underdahl said, “At that time it was just a small rural residential and commercial garbage hauling business servicing Pondera and Glacier counties.”

Underdahl said, “Since that time, we acquired another small garbage hauling business servicing Toole County. In this time, we have taken the garbage customers and tripled them and also purchased portable toilets, 30 yard roll off containers, portable hand wash stations and just recently, have started doing septic full-time.”

The Underdahls bought out Wheeler Septic in August 2012. He said, “We have been very busy and thoroughly enjoy all new challenges we are given. We are a small business which is very beneficial to our customers as we are able to be very hands-on with every project, big or small.”

UFI Sanitation has been expanding their business in the last 13 years. He said, “In our expansions, we have had to set up new garbage systems with accurate container sizes, number of pick ups, routes scheduling, correct style of trucks, along with completely automating our whole garbage side of the business, and it is working out great.”

UFI Sanitation has four full-time employees: Cory Shepherd, Joel Johns, Scott Bucher and Bubba Breding, along with part time employees Blayne and Blake Underdahl and Nathan Pruttis.  Bubba Breding has been with UFI Sanitation for about nine years.

Underdahl said, “Bubba has been my good friend for a long time.”

He feels being hands on and having such a good staff helps. He added, “Working with our qualified staff enables our company to do jobs, large or small, in a more refined way.”

Although UFI Sanitation is not a household word, It is a business that everyone is familiar and with their expansion of pumping septic systems they are kept very busy.

By providing convenient, on site restroom facilities at construction sites and organized events, construction companies see an increase in worker productivity and event organizers gain increased sales due to the added time guests spend at their event.

The portable toilet and restroom industry has grown due to the important economic benefits it provides to construction companies and outdoor events.

The benefits of providing these important benefit services extend into other important areas as well, such as protecting public health and the environment.

UFI Sanitation is located on 304 S. Front St., in Conrad.
