Golf season tees off, here comes the snow

Golf season for the Cowboy and cowgirl teams was set to get off the tee-box on Friday, however, Mother Nature had a little to say about that.

The meet, to be held at the Marias Valley Golf and Country Club, had a white blanket and near freezing temperatures which cancelled the event.

That leaves the varsity team with no competitive matches as they go to Missoula for a two-day meet,  where they played the Larchmont Golf Course and Missoula Country Club.

Even though it is early in the season, the Missoula meet is a big match up of teams, which the home players may face at the state meet in May.

The Cowgirls are one player short of fielding a team, but junior Hayley Orcutt, Kyleigh Salois and Janea Johns, both freshmen, can still play for individual honors.

On the men’s side, the Cowboys have Logan Garman, Jack Grubb, Blake Underdahl, Trace Jochems, Justin Salois, Ryan Thornton, C.J. O’Connor, Quinn Gianarelli, Reese Spears and Lucan Fowler, all set to send the dimpled ball down the fairway.

Conrad has two meets on the home course this year. The varsity and JV teams have a triangular meet on April 22 starting at 4 p.m. and then on April 27, the varsity tees it up, coming off the box at 9 a.m.

The state tournament does a big u-turn this year and comes away from Huntley-Project to the west side of the Rocky Mountain Front, going to Bigfork on the northeast side of Flathead Lake to play a course partially designed and laid by golfing icon, Jack Nicklaus.

The golfers are coached by The Music Man, Todd Truscott and Phil Springer.
