Cowboy golfers place 10th at state tournament

The Conrad golf team completed a good season which saw a young team come on to place in the top 10 at the state tournament in Bigfork.

Early on in first round play, the Cowboys sat in 11th place with a team total of 402.

Jack Grubb put together a round of 98 to pace the team. Right behind was Justin Salois with a 100, Lucas Fowler was in at 102, and Logan Garman also shot a 102.

On the girls’ side, junior Hailey Orcutt was in ninth place with a score of 95.

On moving day, she shot a 99 for a 194 total and placed 11th. The top 15 golfers qualify for All State.

The Cowboys came back and moved up a notch to place in the top 10.

Grubb had a two day total of 192, Salois was two shots back at 194, Garman had a 202 and Fowler 219.

Loyola handily won their fifth straight title, taming the Eagle Bend course with a team score of 616.

Coach Todd Truscott commented, “The boys didn’t have the state tournament we wanted but it was a great experience and with such a young team, we will see what we can do next year in Fairmont.”

The top 10 teams looked like this: 1. Loyola, 2. Red Lodge, 3. Thompson Falls, 4. Deer Lodge, 5. Forsyth, 6. Choteau. 7. Columbus, 8. Three Forks, 9. Shepherd, 10. Conrad, followed by Fairfield and Plentywood.
