Conrad will be hosting its 5th Annual National Night Out (NNO) on Aug. 6 from 5-9 p.m.NNO is a nationwide annual event in which our community began participating in 2009.
NNO is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, generate support for, and participation in local anticrime programs and strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships.
The message of NNO is to warn criminals that our neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
Our local event in Conrad is organized by the Conrad Area Chamber of Commerce, Police Chief Gary Dent and Jamey Byrnes with Gary & Leo’s Fresh Foods IGA.The Conrad Lion’s Club also sponsors the event and cooks their famous burgers.
NNO will feature demonstrations by law enforcement, FBI, Fish Wildlife and Game, a mobile DUI unit, crime lab, fire trucks, a stealth helicopter (weather permitting) and Border Patrol demonstrations just to name a few.
Also included in the evening’s events are carnival rides and games for children and young adults, as well as food and live music for all ages.
The event takes place at the Conrad Lion’s Club Swimming Pool Park.As in the past, our goal is to make this a true community event by offering most activities free of charge and open to the public.
Last year’s event was a huge success and CofChopes to make this year’s event even better. However, in order to pull off this community-wide event many volunteers are needed to help operate the activity and food booths.
The Chamber is reaching out in hopes that local groups and organizations will see the importance of NNO and offer their help in the form of their time.
