Conrad took on the Class A Havre Blue Ponies in a non-conference Homecoming match on Saturday.
The team may have played their best game of the season in winning the match 3-1 by scores of 25-20, 25-19, 22-25, and 25-18.
Besides winning for Homecoming, there was a measure of revenge as the Ponies defeated the Cowgirls last Friday up on the Hi-line in a match that went to five games.
There was no real doubt about the outcome of the match. Early on the Cowgirls came back to take an 18-14 point lead off of nifty line play by Morgan VanDyke,Krista Judisch, Emily Harwood, with Deidre Mecham and Michaela DeBoo digging up incoming shots and Taryn Erickson and Hayley Orcutt putting up some neat assists.
In game two Conrad padded their lead to 20-15 off an ace by Orcutt and back-to-back kill shots by Judisch.
Harwood put over a kill shot to get the set to game point 24-19 and DeBoo sealed the deal with a big ace serve.
In game three, Conrad made a late come back with Orcutt bumping a shot across the net off an assist by VanDyke to get the team a 22-21 lead.
However, the Ponies rallied back to score the final four points and win the set, 22-25.
In game four, Conrad spotted the Ponies an early 0-3 lead but that didn’t last long and late in the contest, a kill shot by VanDyke put the Cowgirls up 21-17 and then a kill shot by Judisch got the contest to game point and Conrad won 25-18 for the Homecoming win.
Orcutt dropped in five aces and DeBoo two. Of the 33 team kills, Judisch banged over 11, VanDyke pounded back 10 and Harwood seven.
Harwood also had four of six blocked shots and DeBoo one. Conrad put up 84 digs, with Erickson having 18 and DeBoo 16.
