Cowgirls season ends at District

While the Conrad volleyball team was in hopes of punching their ticket for the big dance in Bozeman, it just wasn’t in the cards this year.

Cut Bank and Fairfield handed losses to the home ladies at the District 1B tourney in Choteau and their tournament time came to a close before the sun set on Friday.

Conrad took on the Lady Wolves of Cut Bank in the opening match and may have played one of their best matches of year, even in losing in five games by scores of 20-25 25-16, 26-24, 20-25 and 14-16.

There were eight ties and one lead change in the game that was close until the Lady Wolves went on a five point run to win the first game.

In the second set, there were five ties and three lead changes as the Cowgirls came on to down their Hi-line rival 25-16.

Krista Judisch, Emily Harwood, and Michaela DeBoo all powered over big kill shots and Judisch and DeBoo combined more than once to block incoming shots at the net. Morgan VanDyke served up the winning point in the game.

The third set was a killer win for Conrad.

Cut Bank came on strong right away and built up a 1-8 lead and it wasn’t looking good for the Cowgirls.

However, the team would not roll over and go away. Deidre Mecham and VanDyke powered over ace serves. Later in the contest Mecham dumped in back-to-back aces to tie the set at 21-21.

Tied at 24-24, with VanDyke at the service line, Conrad got their first lead in the game, 25-24 and the Cowgirls got the winningpoint, 26-24.

In the fourth set there were four ties and three lead changes, but it was Cut Bank forcing the match to a fifth game.

In the game, VanDyke put back a nifty shot down the left line that put Conrad up 12-8 and it was looking like the Cowgirls were on the way to a win.

However, the Wolves clawed back, tied the contest at 13-13 and came on to win 15-13.

Conrad had 59 kill shots with Judisch having 22 of them. She also blocked six shots at the net. VanDyke had 37 digs of incoming shots, Hayley Orcutt dished up 34 assists and VanDyke dropped in five ace serves.

With their backs to the wall, Conrad faced up with the Fairfield Eagles and suffered a season ending loss in straight sets by scores of 25-22, 25-20, 25-14.

Junior Cowgirl Judisch put together a terrific game, but in the end, it wasn’t enough.

She led the way at the nets with 11 of 37 kill shots, blocked three of the team’s four incoming shots, and served up three of eight aces.

VanDyke dished up 20 digs, and Orcutt put up 27 assists.
