Democratic and Republican precinct committeemen and women will be elected during the June 3 primary.
A Declaration for Nomination is required to be filed in the office of the Clerk and Recorder to appear on the Juneballot for a precinct committee position. There is no filing fee and the persons elected serve a two-year term, beginning January 1, 2015.
Precinct committeemen and women comprise the County Central Committees, which elect the county officers for the party and are involved in making the County Central Committee rules. They also select the Central Committee officers, adopt platforms, select delegates to national conventions, nominate presidential electors, and select National Committeemen and women.
The Central Committees make recommendations to fill vacancies occurring among their party’s candidates and officeholders and may participate in the selection of election judges.
Any person interested in filing for a precinct committee position may do so by obtaining the proper forms from the Clerk and Recorder’s office located on the main floor of the county courthouse. At the time of filing for office, the person must meet the requirements for the position.
The filing deadline for June 3 primary election is March 10.
Anyone having questions relating to the elections is encouraged to stop in the Clerk and Recorder’s office or call 271-4000 for more information.
