If you gotta dump, do it right

Submitted by Jessi Lytle, NMJRDD

Summer is almost here, and that means cleaning out your garage or possibly doing some remodeling on your home. We, at the Northern Montana Joint Refuse Disposal District, are here to help you do it right.

For your convenience, there are six (6) Roll-off Sites available as well as the main landfill site located at 1479 Valier Hwy. 44 E.  Our Roll-Off Sites are in Brady, Choteau, Conrad, Cut Bank, Dupuyer and Valier.

The sites in Brady and Dupuyer are open Tuesday through Friday from 12 to 5 p.m. and on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.  The sites in Choteau, Conrad, Cut Bank and Valier are open Tuesday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.  The landfill is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

All sites are closed on state holidays or the day preceding or following a state holiday if it’s on a weekend.  Please remember if you come to the landfill, you must complete your business there by 4 p.m. to give our employees time to finish their end of the day work.

While cleaning out your garage, you need to keep in mind that there are certain things you need to do before you bring your garbage to the landfill or the Roll-off Sites or put it into the container behind your home. For example, if you have lumber to dispose of, we need it cut into 4-foot lengths in order for it to fit into our containers properly. If you are disposing of any liquids (paint, etc.) it must not be in liquid form when you dispose of it.

You can fill it with kitty litter to thicken it up and dry it out before dumping it. Another example is tires. Tires are not buried with the rest of the garbage at the landfill and when they are in the dumpsters, it’s very difficult to retrieve them so they can be disposed of properly. If you are transporting your own garbage to the landfill or any of the Roll-Off Sites, you are required by state law to have your load secured or covered. If you have questions about properly disposing of your garbage, please do not hesitate to call us at 1-866-378-3095 or 406-278-3095.

We have 40 yard containers available for rent if you are doing a large project. There are many local, state and federal laws that need to be followed if you are doing a remodel project, especially including asbestos inspections, so please call us or a local contractor with any questions before you begin.

For those of you that receive punch cards annually, be on the lookout for them. They will be mailed out by mid-June.  Please remember if you are a property owner and receive one, it is necessary for you to forward it to the tenant that will need to use the card.

The most important thing for you to remember is that we at the Northern Montana Joint Refuse Disposal District work for you, the tax payers of Pondera, Glacier,  and Teton counties. If you have any suggestions, comments, or complaints please do not hesitate to let us know and we will strive to do our best for you.
