Velma Margaret (Bergstrom) Strandberg, 69, of Edina, Minn., passed away Aug. 19, as a result of cancer.  

Velma Bergstrom was born in Conrad on March 18, 1937 to David and Margaret (McLean) Bergstrom.  She grew up on the family farm east of Brady and attended grade school at the Strauss country school.  After the family moved to a house in Conrad, she graduated from Conrad High School in 1955.  She enrolled at Montana State College in Bozeman and was a member of the Kappa Delta Sorority.  She graduated from Montana State College in 1959 with dual degrees in Home Economics and Fine Arts.  

Velma Bergstrom married her high school sweetheart Keith Strandberg, also of Conrad, on July 18, 1959 at the First Presbyterian Church in Conrad.  Velma and Keith Strandberg have two daughters. Keiri, born Dec. 30, 1961 and Heidi, born May 11, 1965.   Velma was an Air Force wife while Keith was a U.S. Air Force pilot serving in the Vietnam War.  During his tours, Velma and her two small daughters lived in Conrad for a time.  Upon discharge from the Air Force, the family moved to Edina. where Keith was a pilot for Northwest Airlines and Velma was a homemaker.  

Velma was a lifelong active member of the Christ Presbyterian Church in Edina, volunteering to lead hospital visitations through the Stephen Ministry for several years.  She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.  She thoroughly enjoyed being a homemaker and was an expert seamstress.

Funeral services were held Aug.  23, at Christ Presbyterian Church in Edina, with ennichement of ashes at Christ Presbyterian Columbarium.

Velma Strandberg is survived by her husband of 47 years, Keith Strandberg of Edina, daughter Keiri and husband Vic Kaneps of Elizabeth, Colo.,  daughter Heidi and husband Tim Drane, and grandchildren “Q” (Quentin), Greta, and Natalie Drane, all of River Forest, Ill.   Also her brother Fred and his wife Edna Bergstrom of Brady, sister Evelyn Bergstrom of Eureka, Mont,  brother Glenn Bergstrom of Missoula, aunts and uncles Annie and Lyle Dyer of Brady, and Katie and Bill Stout of  Troup, Texas, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents David and Margaret Bergstrom.
