Lillian R. Howe

Lillian R. Howe, longtime resident of Pondera County, entered eternal peace on Dec. 4 at Evergreen Convalescent Center in Polson from complications of a stroke.
Lillian was born Aug. 11, 1912, to Harry and Eva Jones at Gordon, Neb. The family moved to Conrad in 1916. They farmed in the area several years. Lillian remembered the flu epidemic of 1918. Her mother would make stew to take to a neighbor’s house and her dad would do chores and take a family member to Conrad.
She started school in the Brown School west of Conrad. The family moved south of Dupuyer and she attended Dupuyer School.
These were joyous times. Later she worked for the Ellis family where she met a young rancher named Tom Howe. They were married on April 22, 1931 and ranched west of Dupuyer for many years. They retired and lived in town and later moved to Conrad.
As years passed and activities of daily living became more difficult, they moved to Charlo to be near family. Tom passed away March 4, 1999.
Lil was preceded in death by her parents, Eva and Harry Jones; sister Joe and Mary Ramaker, brothers Bill and Jimmy Jones and John and Margaret Jones.
She is survived by her daughter and husband, Evelyn and Johnny Allen and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and one great-great- granddaughter.
Graveside services will be held Dec. 9 at the Dupuyer Cemetery at 2 p.m. Shrider-Thompson Funeral & Cremation Services of Ronan is assisting with arrangements.
