Ronald L. ArcherRonald L. Archer, 80, died Sat. at his home in Conrad of multiple myeloma.  Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be at a later date.  Pondera Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
Ron was born in Fort Benton on Dec. 5, 1926 to Edna and Reuben Archer.  He graduated from Fort Benton High School in 1944 and enlisted in the Navy.  After being Honorabley Discharged, he attended Telegraphy School in Spokane, Wash. and began his work for the Great Northern Railroad in 1948.  Ron worked there for 40 years until his retirement.
Ron met Elsie Baumann while working in Conrad and they married there on Oct. 4, 1953.  In 1960 he became the Railroad Agent in Brady.  While in Brady he was active in the American Legion serving as Commander and Adjutant, a member of the Brady Polo and Saddle Club, and a scout master for 10 years.  Ron loved the outdoors and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends camping, fishing, hunting, training horses, and working with his hunting dogs.  He was a member of the Pondera Lodge #80, AF & AM, Victory Chapter #86, OES, Big Sky Morse Telegrapher Club, Conrad Lodge #1687, Loyal Order of Moose, and the Pondera Valley Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his wife, Elsie Archer; son, Jim Archer of Helena; daughter, Rhonda (Dean) Gilbert of Easton, Kan.; grandsons, Joshua Archer of Great Falls, and Alan and Paul Gilbert of Easton, Kan.; granddaughters, Jennifer, Sarah, and Hannah Gilbert of Easton, Kan.; twin brother, Donald Archer of Conrad; and brother, Ramon Archer of Apache Junction, Ariz.
He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son and daughter.
