He attended Conrad High School and graduated in 1958. He then joined the United States Air Force in 1962 serving in Germany and Okinawa. His time in the service ended in 1966 and he remained in Seattle, Wash., until he returned home to Montana in 1968.
Dwayne, known as Dewey to friends and family, began working for Glacier National Park in 1973. Shortly thereafter, he met and married the love of his life, Bonnie Hofland Dugan. Together they raised eight children on their farm outside of Brady and in Glacier Park. He worked in Glacier until he retired as Maintenance Foreman in 1994.
Dewey loved spending time on the farm with his family. He was a farmer at heart, so he took great pride and joy in gardening and caring for the farm. He was an avid outdoorsman, who particularly enjoyed hunting and fishing. In his retirement years he enjoyed coffee with the boys in town, golfing and projects around the house. Family gatherings were a time for him to show off his latest project or recruit for his next one.
Dewey is survived by his children, Tom Pearson of Cody, Wyo., Mike (Amber) Pearson of Great Falls, Jenna McKinney of Hudsonville, Mich., Todd Dugan of Baker, Julie (Ward) Orcutt of Augusta, Brian Dugan of Butte, Tracy (Jim) Dugan Murrell of Whitefish, Dustin (Cody) Dugan of Conrad; his sisters Carol, Lois and Dora; 16 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and extended family.
His parents and his beloved wife, Bonnie, preceded him in death.
