Edward David Minarik

29_obit_ed-minarikEdward David Minarik, 74, passed away Oct. 30, at his home of natural causes.

Funeral mass will be Nov. 2 at 2 p.m. at St. Francis Catholic Church in Valier.  Burial with military honors will follow in Lakeview Cemetery.  Pondera Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Ed was born Dec. 2, 1937 to Joseph and Kathrine Manarik in Roseau, Minn.  He was raised in Roseau and graduated from Roseau High School.  Ed went on to attend Flathead Community College for two years.  Ed married Donna Goodboe in 1959 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.  He enlisted into the U.S. Navy and served for 20 years.  Ed was stationed for four years in Japan.  He was also stationed in Jacksonville, Fla., Pascagoula, Miss. and Whidbey Island, Wash. After retirement from the U.S. Navy he spent several years as a custodian in Joplin and both Fairview, Mont. and Fairview, N.D.  Ed was maintenance supervisor in Glendive Community Hospital.  He went on to work for Haliberton Oil Field in Glendive and later took over as sexton at Dawson County Cemetery.

Ed’s favorite time was spent with his family and friends, camping, hunting and fishing.  He enjoyed watching football, especially the Minnesota Vikings.

Ed was proud of his 38 years of sobriety and sharing with his many friends in Alcoholics Anonymous.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Donna; daughters, Kathryn (Ben) Lehman of Bozeman, Michelle (Stu) Holland of Valier, Joelyn (Charles) Fleisher of Conrad and Hope (Dan) Sidmore of Brady; sons, Boyd (Peggy) Minarik of Two Rivers, Wis., Francis Geiger of Glendive, Rick Hayden of Kalispell, Eldon Christmann of Fairview, and Joe Palmer of Watford City, N.D.; sisters, Dorthy Morneau of YoungTown, Ohio; 23 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by daughter, Teresa Sue Minarik; grandson, Paul Geiger; sisters, Mary Mcguire and Gertie Wiegel; and brothers, Bill, Herb and Leonard.
