William J. “Bill” Bucher

28_obit_bill-bucherWilliam J. “Bill” Bucher, 87, passed away Oct. 25 from natural causes at Pondera Medical Center Extended Care.

Memorial services will be held Nov. 1 at 11 a.m. at the Pondera Valley Lutheran Church in Conrad. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Pondera Funeral Home.

Bucher was born Aug. 22, 1925 to Fred and Mary Keller Bucher in Lewistown. He joined Bob, Esther and Paul. Jack and Margaret followed.  He attended school on Spring Creek on the family ranch and graduated from Fergus County High School.  He served in the Merchant Marines during WWII, being shipwrecked once.  He ranched for a couple years but spent most of his life working for Production Credit Association and Federal Land Bank in Conrad for 33 years. He and Ora Duncan Lemley were united in marriage in Great Falls on July 3, 1955.  He adopted Ora’s daughter Carol, and on Feb. 3, 1957 Earl Douglas was born.

He is survived by his wife, Ora of Conrad; a daughter Carol (Louis) Porta of Reno, Nev.; a brother Paul (Lorraine) Bucher of Bozeman; two grandchildren Matthew (Jana) Porta and Monica Porta; two great-grandchildren Olivia and Jack Porta; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son Douglas Bucher; his parents; brothers, Bob and Jack; and sisters, Esther Schock and Margaret Ekland.
