Ardys Elaine Hansing Dommer

29_obit_ardys-dommerArdys Elaine Hansing Dommer, 89, passed away peacefully in her home in rural Ledger on Oct. 29.

Funeral services were held Nov. 3 at Pondera Valley Lutheran Church. Burial followed in Hillside Cemetery.  Pondera Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Ardys was born July 3, 1923 in Thompson, Iowa, to Hans and Emma Hansing (Erickson).  She was baptized at home and confirmed at Bethany Lutheran Church in Thompson.  She graduated from Thompson High School and attended Luther College in Decorah, Iowa in a pre-nursing program.  She then pursued a nursing degree at Fairview Hospital School of Nursing in Minneapolis, Minn., graduating as a R.N. in 1945.  In the final year of her nurses training, she was chosen to be in the Nursing Cadet Corps in New York City, where she served until her marriage to Fred D. Dommer in September 1945 in Thompson, Iowa.

Ardys and Fred lived in Minnesota, Montana, California and North Dakota, where Fred served as a Lutheran pastor.  While raising her seven children, Ardys led both children and adult choirs in many of the congregations and she worked as a registered nurse in Minnesota and California.  In 1983 she retired with her husband, Fred, to the ranch at Ledger.  She was a member of Pondera Valley Lutheran Church.

Ardys is survived by her husband Fred; children, Hjordis (John) Halvorson, Jarl Dommer, Krista Dommer, Laan (Debbie) Dommer, Mark Dommer and Lanelle (Steve) Baerenwald; 15 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; a brother Marlyn Hansing and a sister, Carol Mehl.

She is preceded in death by her daughter Andrea Dommer; two sisters and a brother.
