Arthur Frank Rossberg

Arthur Frank Rossberg, 86, passed away quietly at home after a long courageous battle with cancer, in Sarasota, Fla., with his family beside him. 

Art was born May 28, 1926, in Great Falls to Robert and Alice Todd Rossberg. Raised in Conrad, Art learned to fly a Piper Cub, which became his real passion in life achieving his pilot’s license at age 16.  He later joined the U.S. Army Air Corp serving honorably during World War II in Italy. 
Art returned to Montana where he began a successful career in banking and finance with the Northwestern Bank Company.  In 1963 he transferred to Norwest Bancorporation in Minneapolis to develop a mortgage banking business, which later became the largest mortgage company in the country.  Art retired from Norwest in 1988 as Sr. Vice President in charge of insurance agency operations.  Art continued his career as a principal owner of the First Western Bank in Minneapolis as President and CEO for several years. 

He started the Rossberg Family Scholarship benefiting the students of Conrad, assisting those students who need it most. 

Art’s love for aviation continued his entire life, owning various types of single and multi-engine aircraft where he served as a member of the U.S. Coast Guard Air Auxiliary in Sarasota.  Art loved taking family and friends flying, often planning trips around the country enjoying the wonders of the sky.  

A lifelong member of the Lake Harriet Lodge in Minneapolis, Art loved life whether riding a Harley, boating on the lakes and ocean, white water rafting or telling one of his many jokes, always laughing and keeping a soft heart through the many challenges of life.

A very kind and wonderful man, son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. 

Art is loved and remembered by his wife Carol; sister Marjorie Thaanum of Helena; daughters Janice Andrus of Half Moon Bay, Calif., Karen Walker of St. Barts, Fla., and Nancy Rossberg of Chaska, Minn.; step-son Todd Lanier of Austin, Texas; grandchildren Allie McCann of Half Moon Bay, Jana Andrus of Half Moon Bay, Ryan Andrus of McKinleyville, Calif., Paige Walker of St. Barts, Chelsea Holmberg and Ross Holmberg of Chaska and Quinton Lanier of Danville, Va.; great-granddaughters Leela McCann and Adalie McCann of Half Moon Bay; nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Delores Cook, brothers Clifford and Robert Rossberg and step-son Scott Lanier.

The family will hold a private memorial at a later date.
