Ethel N. (Yeager) DeVries, 90, passed away Feb. 7, at the Pondera Medical Center Extended Care of natural causes.
Funeral services were held Feb. 12, at Conrad Christian Reformed Church. Interment with military honors followed in Hillside Cemetery. Pondera Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
Ethel was born Aug. 29, 1922, in Conrad to Charles J. and Anna (Louws) Yeager. She attended Conrad schools graduating in 1940. She received her RN degree and then enlisted to serve in the U.S. Army. Ethel married Raymond DeVries in Fresno, Calif., on Dec. 18, 1943. After serving and receiving an honorable discharge, they returned to Conrad and homesteaded under the Carey Land Act. Ray and Ethel raised five children: Ivan, Dennis, Joyce deceased, Dorothy and Carol. Besides farming and nursing, Ethel was active in the Reformed Church and then the Christian Reformed Church. She was also active in 4-H, Cub Scouts, Manson Home Demonstration Club, the Pondera County Food Pantry, herding the sheep with a Chrysler or giving mouth-to-mouth to a baby pig. She loved flowers and always grew a big garden.
Survivors include her sons, Ivan (Mabel) DeVries of Conrad, Dennis (Pat) DeVries of Polson; daughters, Dorothy (Rock) Cline of Billings and Carol (Butch) Johns of Conrad; brother, Charles Yeager of Conrad; sisters-in-law, Jessie DeVries of Alaska and Maureen DeVries of Conrad; grandchildren, Brenda DeVries of Billings, Carmen DeVries of Papua, New Guinea, Jennifer DeVries of Conrad, Daniel DeVries of Portland, Ore., Brooke Johns of Medicine Lake, and Kelly Johns and Colby Johns both of Conrad; numerous nieces and nephews.
Ethel is preceded in death by her husband, Raymond DeVries and daughter, Joyce; her parents; brothers Jim and Glen Yeager; and sister Grace Elings.
