James Ray Dabney

Jim passed away on July 1 of natural causes, surrounded by his five children and a special friend, Jonna Goldsmith.

A memorial service was held July 8 at Bullis Funeral Home in Hardin. Internment will be held in Conrad in the family plot.

Jim was born in Conrad on March 19, 1948, to Helen McMullen and Gene Dabney, the youngest of the family, joining three sisters and two older brothers.

He was raised on the family ranch up at Dupuyer where he learned a strong work ethic.

Jim married Linda Wheeler from Valier and to this union was born the oldest of his five children, Gina, Dana and Trevin Dabney. Jim and Linda moved to Lodge Grass to a new ranch the Dabney’s had bought. Jim and Linda eventually divorced and Jim married again, adding two more sons, Quincey and Michael to his family lineage.

Jim worked at the Lodge Grass School as the facilities maintenance engineer. He eventually moved up to Hardin and went to work at Heritage Acres as head of maintenance for the hospital and nursing home. Jim loved the patients and all aspects of his work. He created a beautiful patio area that they dedicated to him as a memorial.

Jim is survived by his special friend and fiancee Jonna Goldsmith, his five children, 11 grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, his sisters Darlene Rosman and Jean Egan of Conrad and Diana Depner of Hamilton, and brothers Bill Dabney of Garrison and Bob Dabney of Overton, Nev.
