Florence was born in Cascade on Jan. 15, 1918, to Norris and Mary (Yost) Haney. Florence and her sister Alice were raised in the St. Thomas Catholic Home after their mother passed away when Florence was eight-years-old. She remained at the home along with Alice until she finished her schooling. In 1936 she married Peter Habets, and they farmed East of Valier near the Belgian Colony. They had four children: Gale, Larry, Teresa and Ernie. Peter passed away and Florence moved with her children to Great Falls where she worked in a grocery store. Later she met and married Harvey Parmelee, and they had four children: Dolores, Rodger, Candace and Tami.
Harvey and Florence farmed and ranched in the Valier area. As a homemaker she was remembered for sewing, baking and gardening. She also worked as a cook at several local cafes. Harvey and Florence enjoyed traveling to visit their children, and they saw much of the South and Northwest United States. After Harvey passed away in 1982, Florence remained in Valier until the fall of 2007 when she moved to the Horizon Lodge in Conrad. Later she moved to the Country Home in Malta to be closer to her daughter Dolores Shettel and family.
Florence is survived by her children, Larry (Gail) Habets of Watsonville, Calif., Teresa Bruno of Great Falls, Ernie (Shirley) Habets of Conrad, Dolores (Jim) Shettel of Dodson, Rodger Parmelee of Valier, Candace (Gary) Johnson of Otsego, Minn. and Tami (Randy) Wagner of Nodaway, Iowa. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, numerous great-great-grandchildren and five nephews.
She was preceded in death by her son Gale in 1994, grandson Tony in 1988, her sister Alice O’Brien and her brother Clarence (Bud) Haney.
