Ella Cheek    Ella Margaret Johnson Cheek, 85, went to be with her Lord on April 7.  She was at the Pondera Medical Center Extended Care in Conrad.
    Ella was born to Oscar and Matilda Johnson on Sept. 19, 1921 in Portage near Teton River.  Ella grew up on a farm in the Knees Community, attended grade school at the Knees School and then Great Falls High School.  She was the second of five children from a happy and loving farm family who toughed out the depression.  On their homestead they entertained themselves picnicing, swimming and playing games with family and friends.  Ella married Don Cheek in 1939 and lived and farmed on his family homestead on Pondera Creek.  They had a son, Armond and daughter, Nadean.  Ella was an excellent homemaker and an exceptional cook.  She was an accomplished seamstress and loving mother.  For a time she worked at Valentine Style Shop in Conrad during the winters.  She loved gardening and flowers, playing bridge, sewing, square dancing, camping and her grandchildren.  She gave much of her time and talents to her church, community, and the Senior Center and was named Senior Citizen of the Year.  She and Don enjoyed winters in Arizona for many years.
    Survivors include her husband of 67 years, Donald Cheek, of Conrad; a son, Armond (Joan) Cheek of Ledger; a daughter, Nadean (Ron) Proul of Swan Lake; grandchildren, Wanda and Keith Wagner of Red Deer, Alberta; Gary Cheek of Cut Bank; Daryl and Lynn Cheek of Helena; Ron, Jr. and Leticia Proul of Palos Verdes, Calif.; Daun and Curt Lembke of Kalispell; Cathlyn and Peter Ostrem of Glen Ridge, NJ; 12 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild; sisters, Helen Bicsak and Betty (Bud) Quickenden both of Great Falls; Dorothy (Marvin) Hallas of Alberton; numerous loving nieces and nephews.
    She is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Arthur Johnson, during WWII; and a grandson, Steven Proul.
    Memorials can be made to the Yellowstone Boy’s and Girl’s Ranch and Flathead Lutheran Bible Camp.
    Memorial Services will be April 14 at 3 p.m. at the Pondera Valley Lutheran Church.  Pondera Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
