It is with great sadness that we mourn the sudden loss of our mom, grandma, great-grandma, sister, aunt and friend, Betty Lou Humble Wenzel Johnson. She passed away in Conrad on Dec. 2 at the age of 83.
Funeral services will be held Dec. 14 at 2 p.m. at the Valier Methodist Church. Burial services to follow at Lakeside Cemetery. A reception will be held following the burial at the Methodist Church.
Betty was born in Conrad on Aug. 12, 1930 to Dave and Zana Humble. She grew up and lived there until marrying Francis Wenzel on May 23, 1948 and moving to Valier. Betty farmed with Francis north of Valier while raising their five children. After Francis passed away in 1984, she moved back to Conrad.
She met Duane Johnson and they married on Jan. 15, 1995 and moved to Great Falls. Betty recently moved back to Conrad where she lived at the Horizon Lodge. Betty was a member of the Valier Methodist Church, The Stitch and Chatter Club, The Rebekah’s and the Democratic Women’s Organization. She loved to bowl, play cards and golf at the family cabin in West Glacier. Betty also played the piano and loved to play music. She even sang on the radio as a child with her brothers Bob and Mylen, and sister Rosemary.
Betty’s finest accomplishment was her family. Her five children, which were born between 1948 and 1954, her 10 grandchildren between 1967 and 1991, and her 13 great-grandchildren between 1996 and 2011, at the time of her passing. Many holidays, birthdays, and family get-togethers were knitted together with her love and care. Betty always had a smile on her face and a happy laugh for those she loved. She enjoyed crocheting baby blankets for the new members of her family. Grandma Betty loved to spend time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Betty is survived by her brother, David (Joe) Humble of San Jose, Calif.; her children, Sheryl (Rik) Kronebusch of Vista, Calif.; Roger (Jane) Wenzel of Sacramento, Calif.; Karen (John) Wolcott of Kila; Richard (Laurie) Wenzel of Butte; and Connie Sullivan of Conrad. Her grandchildren include; Jerad Hollandsworth of La Jolla, Calif.; Nicki Meade of Fairfield, Calif.; Shawn Sullivan of Conrad, Shannon Naylor of Conrad, Suzanne Wenzel of Berlin, Germany; Scott Sullivan of Oceanside, Calif.; Natasha Wenzel attending Yale in New Haven, Conn.; Elliott Wenzel attending Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, Calif.; Stacey Allen of Butte; and Melissa Wilhelm of Butte. Her great-grandchildren include: Genessa, Emma, Mackenzie, Addison, Kailee, Carsen, Jaden, Connor, Taylor, Corbin, Olivia, Madisyn and Charlie.
