Charles (Chuck) Yeager, Jr., was born Oct. 26, 1917 and died Dec 19, 2013.
Viewing was held on Dec. 30 at the Pondera Funeral Home, internment at the Hillside Cemetery, funeral service was held at the First Presbyterian Church.
After graduating from Conrad High School in 1936, he could only afford one year at MSU—Bozeman studying mechanics. He returned home and began farming. In 1940, he married Mavis Baumann and they raised four children east of Conrad on an irrigated farm. Charles was an avid rifle and shotgun shooter and longtime NRA member. His many activities included Ledger Gun Club, many hunting and fishing trips, and in his later years he was an active trap shooter and helped to promote that sport in Conrad.
Chuck liked to take pictures and was asked to photograph local family events, weddings and class reunions for many years. He loved visiting Glacier National Park and driving the Going-to-the-Sun highway.
Chuck will be missed by his children, Phyllis Yeager Hoekman of Montreal, Quebec, Charyle Yeager Chiles (Chuck) of El Cajon, Calif., Jon (Patt) Yeager of Dillon and Noranne Yeager of Kalispell; his nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren in the U.S. and Canada.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mavis in 2004, his parents, Anna and Charles Yeager and his siblings, Grace Yeager Elings, James Yeager, Glen Yeager and Ethel Yeager DeVries. Chuck was the last member of his family, living to age 96 and was as surprised as any of his family that he would outlive all his siblings.
