Kenneth E. Otness, 88, of Brady, died March 31.

Memorial services will be held on April 4 at 2 p.m. at Pondera Funeral Home. Pondera Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Ken was born Dec. 14, 1925 in Conrad.  He attended Brady schools and graduated in 1944.  On Dec. 7, 1943, he enlisted in the Navy and was honorably discharged in December 1946.  His assignment during World War II, in the Alaska theater, was flight engineer on PBY search and rescue missions.  He received the Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic Pacific Medal, American Area Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.

In September of 1945, he married Myrtlene Holliman of Laurel, Miss., and they had three children.  They divorced in 1967.  On March 3, 1969 he married Peggy Howell, who pre-deceased him on Dec. 25, 1999.

Ken went to refrigeration and electrical technical school in Minnesota in 1947.  He then returned to the Brady area where started an electronic and refrigeration contractual service before he broke new ground west of Brady and started a grain farm.  During his years he worked on various construction projects and co-founded a fencing company that fenced along I-15, much of which is still standing.

He was past Commander of the American Legion, Fire Chief of the Brady VFD, original secretary of the Brady Water Board, member of the Brady Civic Club and member of the Methodist Church.  He enjoyed fishing, visiting family and traveling.

Ken is survived by his three children: Michael Otness of Somers, his wife Nancy and children Justin, Trevor and Burton; Glenn Otness of Houston, Texas, his wife Martha and children Katie and Matthew; and Pam Lockwood of Llano, Calif., her husband Jay and two children J.J. and Jillian.  He is also survived by his step-son Richard Howell of Brady, his wife Cindy and three children Jeremiah, Jaimie, and Lyndsie; and many great grandchildren.
