Anna Dorothea Simonson

Anna Dorothea Simonson, 83, formerly of Helena, died of natural causes at Pondera Medical Center Extended Care Facility on May 23.  Cremation has taken place and a private

scattering of ashes will be held at a later date. No services are planned per her wishes. Pondera Funeral Home handled the arrangements. Condolences may be left at

She was born July 25, 1930 to parents Albert Edward Bull and Anna Dorothea Nicholson Bull of Cascade. She was known as Dorothea throughout her life. Her first home was the NS Ranch near Cascade. In 1934 her family moved to Fairfield. She attended schools there and graduated high school in 1948. She attended one summer of college and then taught a rural school at Warrick near Big Sandy. Teachers were extremely scarce then because of the recent World War and the higher number of rural Montana schools at that time. She later attended college in Great Falls and Havre. She then taught at several schools in Montana and Idaho. She also worked in the Conrad library for a time.

She married Leslie Simonson in Lewistown on Jan. 19, 1951. They had a daughter and a son.

In 1983 she and her husband Leslie moved to Helena. From 1983 to 1991 she worked at the
Lewis and Clark Library as a Reference Librarian. From 1991 to 1995 she worked at the Montana Historical Society Library in the Reference Department. She retired in August of 1995. She occasionally helped people research family information and helped many authors research data for articles and books they were writing. She moved to Conrad in 2009 to be closer to family.

She is survived by her daughter Cheryl (Steve) of Conrad and a son John of Magna, Utah;
grandchildren Seth, Leah, and Carrie Becker, Thayne and Derek Simonson; and great-grandchildren, Jessica and Jace Brierly; sister Beverly (Leo) Faber; brother Frank (Jo) Bull; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Leslie; a brother, Albert Bull; and sister, Joyce Tyler. She will be remembered for her intelligence, excellent cooking, and a great sense of humor.
