David Vernon “Stubbs” Stokes

David Vernon “Stubbs” Stokes    David Vernon “Stubbs” Stokes, 44, formerly of Valier, died suddenly on June 27, of a heart attack at a Missoula Hospital.
    Funeral Services were held  July 6 at the Valier United Methodist Church.  Burial followed in Lakeview Cemetery. Pondera Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
    David was born Oct. 17, 1962 in Cut Bank to Sam and Iva (Orr) Stokes. He attended school in Bainville and graduated from Valier High School in 1980. David attended DeVry Institute in Phoenix, Ariz. before enlisting in the US Army in 1982. After his honorable discharge he worked with structural steel and in a water treatment facility in Columbus, Ga. While in Georgia he married Sandra Parker. They later divorced.
    In 1999 he moved back to Montana and was employed by Tom Stokes. At this time he met Dawn Krouger. Together they moved to Salt Lake City, Utah and David worked in water treatment. In 2002 he was employed for Stimson Lumber in Bonner as a water treatment technician.
    David loved the mountains, horses, and motorcycles.  Throughout a good part of his life horses were not feasible but he always had a motorcycle.
    He is survived by his significant other, Dawn Krouger, of Bonner; step-father, Jack Linquist, of Valier; and step-brother, Mike (Aaron) Linquist and their children, Hope, Logan, and Keton, of Choteau.
