John S. Mandel

    John S. Mandel, 91, passed away Sept. 18, at his home at New Miami Colony of natural causes.
    John was born May 4, 1916 in Carpenter, S.D.  He moved to Raymond, Alberta in 1918 with his parents.  In 1925 he moved to Miami Colony in Dayton, Alberta.  John married Rebecca P. Hofer on Nov. 27, 1940.  He had one step-daughter and one son of his own.  They moved to Conrad in 1948.  Rebecca died on Nov. 16, 1962.  His step-daughter married Sam M. Mandel on Dec. 12, 1951 and they together have 4 children.  John later married his second wife, Sarah Stahl, from Deerfield Colony, in Lewistown on Jan. 17, 1971.  Sarah was born in Olivet, S.D.  John was in charge of the Dairy and Range Cattle Business for 25 years.
    He was a beloved grandpa to all.
    Survivors include his son, John (Anna) Mandel of New Miami Colony; 8 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
    He is preceded in death by spouses, Rebecca (Hofer) Mandel and Sarah (Stahl) Mandel; daughter-in-law, Katie Mandel; and a great grandson, John.
    Funeral Services were held Sept. 21, at the New Miami Cemetery.
