James William Mooney

    James William Mooney was born March 2, 1920, in Conrad to Earl and Mary Almira ”Myra” Mooney. He grew up on the family farm near Manson. He graduated from Conrad High School in 1938 and enrolled at Montana State University (MSU) in Bozeman.
    James graduated from MSU with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering in May 1943.
    In August, he was called into active military duty and served as a First Lieutenant in E Company of the 41st Armored Infantry Division. He was field promoted to Captain and awarded the Silver Star during his service in Europe.
    James married Shirley Ras­mussen at Ada, Minn., in February of 1956. They made their home in Fargo, N.D.
    He worked for Honeywell prior to starting his own engineering firm, Mooney, Henning, Metz ad Associates.
    Following his retirement, James and Shirley enjoyed winters in Ari­zona and summers in Fargo.
    Shirley passed away in May 1996. James continued to enjoy winters in Arizona and traveling to visit his children and grandchil­dren.
    He died Monday, Sept. 24 at MeritCare Palliative Care Center in Fargo.
    James is survived by his three children, Pamela (Wayne) Mar­quard, St. Louis, Mo.; Kim (Curt) Kenner, Maddock, N.D., and James (Allison) Mooney, Madison, Wis.; grandchildren, Danielle, Haile and Kyle Marquard, Bryan (Robin) Kenner, Kelly (Justin) Wanzek, Robert and Kaitlin Mooney and great-granddaughter Macy Wan­zek.
    Also surviving are his sisters, Doris Neu, Missoula, Georgia (Ted) Garnett, Conrad, JoAnn (Os­car) Swenson, Kalispell and many nieces and nephews.
