The tour of our very own Western United States (first stop San Francisco) continues this month in Utah.
With no fewer than six National Parks scattered across the southern half of the state, Utah conveniently provides enough spectacular scenery to while away as much vacation time as you can squeeze into one trip.
For many, Utah conjures up images of the Rockies, powder-skiing, Sundance Film Festival or the Great Salt Lake. An altogether different Utah lies several hours south of Salt Lake City.

819th Red Horse Squadron
This past week the VFW hosted members of the 819th Red Horse squadron from Malmstrom Air Force Base in Great Falls.
Red Horse is an acronym for Rapid Engineer Deployable, Heavy Operational Repair Squadron, Engineer.
Lt. Col. Steve Ziade and four other members of the Red Horse talked and gave a slide show of their recent experiences while on deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan.
The team included Capt. Matt Stutevant who is an engineering commander from Maine and Sgt. E. Little Young Man Baker who is from Browning. She has had 10 deployments overseas. Also on the stage at the newly remodeled high school auditorium were Capt. Quincy Baity, a project engineer, and 1st Lt. James Wyatt who was most recently at Camp Zafore in Afghanistan.

The commissioners approved the canvas vote of the June 8 primary election conducted on June 21.
The canvas of votes was conducted by Commissioner Joe Christiaens, Clerk of Court Kara Thompson, and Kristi Robertson, deputy treasurer.
Elected by acclamation at the election were Democratic and Republican precinct committee people.
On the Democratic side from Precinct 24 (PCT), Wanda Bandow and Larry Boettcher were elected.
On the Republican side, from PCT 19 was Cindie Vandenberg, PCT 23 Ali Newkirk and Jack Hayne, PCT 24 Louise Glimm and Ken Johnson, PCT 27 Wendy Judisch and Ted Kronebusch, PCT 28 Patti and Lyle Orcutt, PCT 34 Mary Lake, and PCT 35 Jacqueline and Ken Wheeler.
In other business, the commission discussed the renewal of a contract with Jim Yeagley of the Land Planning Contract (LPC) for survey and subdivision review. The county received another proposal from Stahly Engineering.
